Opinion 130 Massive data and health: current situation, future prospects and new ethical issues

The impact of large-scale healthcare data is significant and growing, enabling major innovations in research, patient care and healthcare organisation. The technological and cultural changes underway mean that we need to consider the ethical issues involved in the collection, processing and use of data. In its Opinion 130, the CCNE provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of mass data in health care, discusses their potential development and analyses the new ethical issues they raise. It makes 12 recommendations that it considers essential to ensure compliance with ethical principles. This opinion is the CCNE's response to a referral from the Minister of Health in January 2017.
