CCNE MISSIONS

The mission of the National Consultative Ethics Committee on Health and Life Sciences is “to give opinions on ethical problems and societal issues raised by progress in the fields of biology, medicine and health.” (Law of August 6, 2004).

The Committee’s primary mission is to produce opinions and reports on issues referred to it. Our freedom and independence lend legitimacy to our recommendations. Our purpose is to provide the referring authority an in-depth perspective allowing everyone to build their own opinion. We believe it is extremely important for the Committee’s work to be discussed as extensively as possible.

The Committee’s missions are now all included in the bioethics law of August 6, 2004 (law n° 2004-800), which gives it the status of independent authority.
