Medically assisted reproduction (MAR) technology includes a number of techniques, developed by the medical professions and subsequently ordered by legislators, to treat various forms of infertility revealing physical dysfunctions. Society’s  requests for access to MAR relate to the possibility of using these techniques for other purposes than treatment for pathological infertility. An increase in the number of such requests for MAR can now be observed which previously were not expressed or only to a limited extent. Underlying reasons are that society’s expectations are evolving, French law and the law in some other countries have changed and technical innovation.
